The S&P 500 fell less than 0.1 percent to 1215.65 at 4 pm New York time after rising 0.6 percent earlier. It retreated 3.8 percent this week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 25.43 points, or 0.2 percent, to 11796.16.
