S&P 500 hits black for 2011 on slow day

Traders exchanged just 2.22 billion shares, about half the recent average. The market will be closed on Monday because Christmas falls on a Sunday this year. The S&P 500 added 11.33 points yesterday, to 1265.33. It started the year at 1257.64.
